Big Bears Share Wisdom of Experience

This week our U15 and U16 players were joined by former CBJFC champions who have gone on to play at elite levels, and who generously gave up their time to share their experiences and insights with the Juniors. Nick Edwards, Theo Thompson and Kade Answerth played with the Bears through all junior age groups, starting together in the U9s.

After a fast-paced drills session, players enjoyed a hot meal while their special guests answered plenty of questions. Key points shared by Nick, Theo and Kade included:

  • Nothing beats playing with your mates. Playing with the same team from U9s through to U17s created great bonds between mates.
  • Playing club footy is a great way to balance out the pressures of school. While it can be hard to juggle schoolwork and sport, physical fitness helps with mental fitness and relieves stress. It's also a good opportunity to spend time with different people.
  • Maintaining fitness can be tough, but it's easier to maintain than regain if you let it slip. Core strength, speed and elite kicking skills are key factors for anyone looking to take their footy to the next level.
  • No matter how good an individual is, it takes a whole team working together to succeed.

The evening was organised by CBJFC Coaching Coordinator Gary Birrell, who coached the boys to several premierships with the Bears. Players, parents and coaching staff sincerely appreciate the time and effort everyone made to attend, and look forward to seeing our current CBJFC teams experience the benefits of playing together through all levels of junior football.
